The Basics
The Team Trivia Challenge is a game show-style trivia competition for teams, and a fun-filled event for both competitors and spectators alike. Teams of up to four members each test their science fiction and fantasy knowledge on a variety of topics ranging from movies - to comics to television to science and more. Eight teams (the previous year's defending champions and seven challenging teams) compete for bragging rights and (modestly budgeted) fabulous prizes!
You can put a team together and enter, or just come on down and enjoy the show! There's a $20 fee for competing teams, but for spectators, it's free! You can root for your favorite teams, test your own trivia knowledge and maybe even win a prize for answering an audience question. We'll have a raffle and GPS merchandise for sale! And for those over 21, there is a cash bar.

How Do I Enter a Team?
For those wishing to compete, the process of entering is simple; to be considered for one of the seven open slots, complete an entry form and get the form and a check for the $20 entry fee into our hands by the beginning of the Elimination Round on April 17, 2010. To make it really clear, you can register your team when you show up at the Elimination Round. We prefer that you register ahead of time, but it's not required. You can give the form and fee to a member of the Trivia Planning Committee or Regent, or simply mail it to:

All checks and money orders should be made payable to GPS.
Once we receive your entry, we will send you a confirmation.
Procedure
-
To enter a team you must turn in an entry form and $20 to a Trivia Planning Committee Member or Director or register the day of the event before the Elimination Round. We will not hold a slot based on verbal requests, or commitments.
-
If GPS receives more entries than open team slots, an elimination contest will be held at 2:45 pm on the same day (April 17, 2010) as the GPS Trivia Contest.
-
At the elimination contest, each team will be given an identical set of questions and will have twenty minutes to correctly answer as many as possible.
-
The top seven teams will advance into the Trivia Contest.
-
$10 will be refunded to teams not advancing.
-
-
The main trivia contest will begin at 5:30 pm. All team captains (or designated team member) MUST be at the contest briefing at 2:45 pm. Teams not having a representative at the 2:45 pm meeting will be replaced. Replacement teams will be selected in order of score in the elimination contest from the teams that are present.
-
Teams will consist of no more than 4 members, one of which will be the captain.
-
If a team member is not present, the team may compete with only three (or fewer) members.
-
A team member may be added at any time to replace a team member who did not show up. However, once a team member competes at any time in the trivia contest (elimination, or main rounds), they may not be replaced.
For example, one of Team Stimpy's members is late for the elimination contest. Team Stimpy may compete with only three members and when the late member arrives, they could join the team. However, Team Stimpy could also choose to replace the late team member. In this case, the late team member would not be allowed to compete.
